Billing Information

The City of Salem utility bills are for Water, Sewer, Storm Sewer and Garbage fees.  Water meters are read monthly to determine water consumption. Most meters are read remotely, which means a field technician does not have to enter your property. If an actual meter reading cannot be obtained, an estimated reading will be used. Usage is calculated in units of gallons. Bills are generated monthly and are due on the 10th of the month. Accounts will be assessed a late fee if payment is received after the due date. Application for service is posted on the sidebar, a copy of your drivers' license is required, if e-mailing citysalem@salemsd.com your completed application, please include a copy.

Payment Options
Salem utilities offers a variety of payment options:

In Person: Customers may pay bills at the Salem City Hall, 400 N Main Street, during regular business hours. there is a drop box by the front door for after business hours.

By Mail:  Mail payments to City of Salem, PO Box 249, Salem, SD 57058.

Automated Bill Payment Plan:  (ACH) Monthly payments can be deducted from the customer's bank checking or savings account. Call or stop into the billing office to obtain an application, or download an application from the sidebar.

Credit/Debit Card Transaction: The City of Salem is offering the option of paying your Salem Water Works Bill with either a credit card or debit card through the PayGovNet website. A Convenience Fee of 2.65% is assessed to each transaction. There is a minimum Convenience Fee of $1.00 for all transactions.
